The Ward Cordwainer

Welcome to Cordwainer Ward Club

The Ward of Cordwainer is situated at the heart of the City of London. It is home to two of the great churches of the City, St Mary-le-Bow and St Mary Aldermary, a number of historic streets including Watling Street, Bow Lane and Cheapside, major financial institutions, and a wide range of small businesses, shops, restaurants and cafes. In recent years the Ward has been substantially redeveloped and the street scene enhanced.

The City of London is divided into 25 wards, each with an elected Alderman and, on average, four elected Common Councilmen. Our Ward Club represents the Cordwainer Ward. It is named after the cordwainers, the professional shoemakers who historically lived and worked in this area of London; there is a Livery Company for the trade, the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers.

Our Alderman is Alexander Barr, and its Common Councillors are Sir Michael Snyder, Jamel Banda and Amy Horscroft. They all play significant roles in the City of London Corporation, hold senior positions in the Financial and Professional Services (‘FPS’) sector, and have long direct associations with the Ward.

The Ward of Cordwainer Club plays an important role in the life of the Ward. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the Ward, and its events, which tend to sell out quickly, include tours, dinners and activities and are enjoyable and informative as well as providing networking opportunities.

Our Ward Club is a great supporter of the City Civic, the Corporation, the Mayoralty, the Livery Companies and all that goes with it, City Giving Day and the Red Cross Market at Guildhall, amongst others.
